The Future of iPhone

Smartphones have become an important aspect of our lives as they provide us with many different tools which both assist and distract us in our everyday lives. There is no doubt that when Apple announced the iPhone in 2007, that they fundamentally changed the mobile phone into what it is seen as today. Ten years later, Apple is still one of the most popular smartphone providers, who are now gearing up for the biggest change to the iPhone ever for their upcoming release in September of the ‘iPhone 8’.

Design

The design is one of the biggest changes to be coming to the next iPhone. Previous iPhones have retained an aluminium body through the different generations, and now Apple intends to now more to an entire glass back and front with stainless steel edges.  The smartphone will keep the well-known Lightning connector to charge and connect the phone and will continue be without a headphone jack which was one of the biggest changes with Apple’s iPhone 7. The iconic home button is expected to be removed to accommodate for a new edge to edge display. Apple plans to replace this by creating new gestures for users to switch or multitask between applications. The gold, black and silver colours are expected to return from previous models.

Screen

The screen size of the iPhone has mostly stayed the same throughout the years, taking up the same space on the smartphone through the iterations. However, for the tenth anniversary iPhone, Apple plans to change this by increasing the screen size to 5.8 inches and will take up the entire front space of the device. This change makes the screen the largest on any iPhone while keeping the smartphone smaller than Apple’s larger smartphone predecessor, the iPhone 7 Plus. The display will also feature an OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) screen instead of the usual LCD screen used by Apple. This change allows the phone to be thinner, use less power and much brighter.

Features

Apple plans to release big features for the release of their highly anticipated eleventh generation of iPhone. One of the major changes is going to be wireless charging. Wireless charging is currently available on the Apple Watch; however, Apple is now ready to bring it over to the iPhone. This feature would work by placing the smartphone on a charging pad that creates an electromagnetic field to allow a current to pass between the surface and device. Apple is also expected to remove the Touch ID sensor to incorporate facial recognition as the new form of biometric security. The facial recognition would be used to unlock the smartphone and authenticate purchases. This feature will be a quicker and more secure than Touch ID and will offer sensors to avoid being tricked by a photograph.
